I hate not having a car. Oh, sure, I’m allowed to use my company vehicle without restriction, but it’s a hugh-jass cargo van with conspicuous graphics on it. Hell, it can barely fit through most drive-thrus. And we still have my partner’s car, but it’s HIS car. We don’t work the same schedules ever, so it’s never available on my days off. I miss being able to hop into my car whenever I want and go for an aimless drive in the mountains.
Ever since I got my drivers’ license, I’ve never not had a car until now. That’s 27 years of constant vehicle ownership. Now it’s been almost 3 months without one. I HATE it.
I can’t wait until I get the gap payment which should be credited sometime this week. I’m friggin’ miserable.

I don’t mind it that much. I can go several days not getting in the car.
I get a taxi from time to time which saves on parking hassle and expense, etc... get the taxi to drop me off where ever I want and pick me up where ever I want. If I fancy a pint, I go get a pint.
I don’t live far from town so it’s not like it’s expensive at all, just more convenient.

This is why I’ve never owned just one car... I tend to buy beaters and it’s good to know that at least one of them will always be roadworthy (2 out of 3 are roadworthy currently!) . I’ve only been without a car for 2 months since I’ve had my license, and that was while I was in basic training. I got so anxious during that 2 months that I rented a car as soon as I could afterwards and took a road trip. It’s a genuine addiction .

I’ve owned 3 at a time twice. Unfortunately, that’s not really feasible where we live currently. We’d need to get a real house with a driveway and a garage before I’d ever feel comfortable getting more. Whatever I buy will have to be parked on the street.

I live just a couple blocks from a light rail station, and I can still use a vehicle when I need to get somewhere. B ut I really miss going for drives. That’s been my stress reliever for as long as I’ve been a licensed driver. It’s not unusual for me to just go drive for two or three hours or more with no real destination. Plus there are so many great roads in the mountains here with unbelievable scenery. I miss it.

I’ve done the try to juggle multiple cars in the city with street parking thing in the past. It sucks.
Also, I sort of misspoke. I actually own 5 cars, it’s just that 2 of them are in Minnesota. A ‘63 Galaxie that’s nearly restored, and a 2007 Miata that’s been collecting dust at a body shop for the last 2 years.

Space, money, storage, reality, etc., are no excuses for having more cars than you need!

That’s why I like living in Europistan with our evil communist public transport.

Nah, t hat’s not for me. I’ve never been into them. Besides, I see how they’re treated in traffic and that’s enough to scare me away.

Same here. I could take the bus to work but I don’t because driving is just so relaxing.

Dang, I was wondering why we’d not seen a “ hey I picked up a town car/ranger” post from you yet. Do you have your eye on something for when you get the payment?

Ironically, I'm still looking at the same Town Car and Ranger. Neither have been sold yet.

So, my wife just (as in “five minutes ago”) surprised me with a trip to the Texans-Broncos game on November 4th. Where is a good place to stay? Needs to be around the fun parts of town (read as: walking distance to cool bars) and within a reasonable distance to Sports Authority Field. Downtown?

I don't know of a specific place, but if you stay close to LoDo you'll be in the right area. You can also take light rail to the stadium and it should just be a couple stops. Actually, anywhere right in downtown near 16th is good too because you can take the free bus that runs down the 16th Street Mall.

Are you ok with a Westin? Looks like the Westin downtown is right around $200 per night. I don't know what your budget is, but it's right in the middle of things.

Westin, Courtyard, Embassy suites, and the Hilton all interested us.

The Westin is in a really good location. I think that’s where I’d choose to stay.
